Catalog > Electric Deer Fence Lures Deer Scents (Lures) About Deer Attractants: Most electric deer fences depend on shocking deer on the nose or tongue, because far less voltage (in the neighborhood of 2.5 kilovolts) is needed to administer a palpable shock there, as compared to the roughly 5 kilovolts required to shock the animal through its insulating coat. The usual way of doing this is to bait the fence with some deer attractant about every 20 feet, and then to maintain the bait every 10 days or so through the critical early part of the season. Peanut butter is a perfectly good attractant, and aluminum foil moulded into a small cup shape can serve as a receptacle. However, many people prefer scent caps (product 03-04) baited with attractants like concentrated apple or wild grape scent (products 03-01 through 03-03), because they are neater and easier to maintain. Deer Scents (Lures) We stock two deer scents (apple and wild grape) in case the deer get used to one. The 1.25 oz. bottles last quite a while, but for baiting really long electric deer fences the 4 oz. bottle makes sense. Of all the commercial deer lures, apple scent is the most widely used. |
