Catalog > Electric Fence Insulators > Wood Posts 1" Insulator for wire, polywire, polyrope About Wood Post Insulators: Wood is not an ideal insulator, especially when damp, and living trees (to which wood post insulators can be nailed) are not insulators at all. Also, metal barrier fencing is sometimes attached to the same wood posts that must hold the charged conductor. All this makes the distance between the conductor and the base of the insulator important, which is why the insulators below provide the option of selecting from several standoff distances. One-Inch Insulator for Wire, Polywire, and Polyrope Holds the conductor one inch out from the post. Nail included. Available in yellow only. Two-Inch Insulator for Wire, Polywire, and Polyrope Holds the conductor two inches out from the post. Nail included. Available in yellow or black. Five-Inch Insulator for Wire, Polywire, and Polyrope Holds the conductor five inches out from the post. Nail included. Available in yellow or black.
Corner Knob Insulators for Wire, Polywire, and Polyrope The small holding arms of the insulators for wire, polywire, or polyrope (products 07-07 thru 07-12) are not well-suited to securing conductors where the fence is going around bends or corners. Two good alternatives for this purpose are Dare's heavy-duty black polyethylene corner knob, and extra heavy-duty "Double U" end and corner insulator. Both will hold these conductors securely, and both can themselves be secured to a wood post with wire or synthetic twine. In addition, the Double-U end and corner insulator is suitable for high-tensile use and can withstand extremely low temperatures such as those found in Alaska. Those using metal electric fence wire also have the option of stringing the wire through a tubular insulator (product 07-89) and running the insulator-encased wire behind the post. These tubular insulators come reinforced on the inside with a metal insert designed to take high-tensile stress. Pinlock Insulators for Wire and Polywire In ordinary situations, where the fence line is not going around a sharp bend or corner, the small holding arms of the insulators for wire, polywire, or polyrope (products 07-07 thru 07-12) can hold wire or polywire reasonably well. To hold these conductors really securely, however, it is better to use a pinlock insulator for wood posts. This insulator, which is suitable for high-tensile use, admits the wire or polywire into a slot, and then holds it securely by means of a removable pin. Safety Top'r Insulator for All Conductors but Extra-Wide Polytape Designed to go on the top of steel T-posts, this insulator can be nailed to the top of a wood post and can accomodate all conductors except for polytape over 1.5 inches wide. Available in yellow and black. Snug Insulator for Polytape 0.5" to 1.5" Wide Galvanized ring shank nails included. Available in yellow, black, or white. 3.5" Insulator for Polytape 0.5" to 1.5" Wide Holds the conductor 3.5" out from the fence. Nail included. Available in yellow or white. |
